Addi and Athina inspire us because they don’t ask permission, they make up their own rules. How many women or men would have thought of towing their eight-year-old in a kayak as they swam their TeamAA Kayak/Swim challenge or canoe along the near 130 miles Leeds to Liverpool canal in BoatyMacBoatface?
Creating their own adventures means TeamAA, and not the guardians of sporting success can measure how far they have come and what they want to achieve next. What Addi and Athina do, together, is important because it reminds us that women have often wanted, always been able to, and frequently required to create their own paths. Their ambition is part of a longer chain that connects them to hundreds of activists and adventurers whose daring has opened up new possibilities for the women that come after.
